La visite d'Ayer's Rock aura été à la fois belle, frustrante et exceptionnelle. Belle, parce que ce rocher surréaliste, planté au milieu du désert, habité par les légendes aborigènes et centre de leur monde spirituel, est incroyablement fascinant. Lisse, abrupt et semblant émerger du sol, il s'en dégage une force remarquable. Frustrante, car la pluie a choisi ce jour-là (et uniquement ce jour-là) pour s'inviter dans le voyage; et n'avoir que l'opportunité de parcourir la douzaine de kilomètres qui serpente autour du rocher sans autre forme de visite ou d'information, c'est peu. Exceptionnelle enfin grâce au soleil qui a finalement réussi à transpercer les nuages et illuminer le rocher quelques instants avant de s'éteindre, et au somptueux arc-en-ciel qui couronnait la scène.

Beautiful, because this strange rock popping up in the middle of the desert, possessed by ancient aboriginal legends and the centre of their spiritual universe, is incredibly fascinating. Smooth, abrupt and emerging from the ground, a remarkable force radiates from it. Frustrating, as rain chose this very day to get itself in the trip; and when you are next to Ayer's Rock, and the only possibility you have is to walk a dozen kilometer around the rock without any other kind of information, it leaves you rather unsatisfied... Yet if was outstanding thanks to the sun which finally managed to break through the clouds and make the rock shine a coupld of moments before setting down, and to the gorgeous rainbow crowning the scene.
